  12. What is ScreenMap GUIDE ?
  13. -------------------------

  15.   ScreenMap GUIDE is a user-friendly program designed to find streets and
  16.   display them quickly on your computer screen.  You can also extract map
  17.   data into AutoCad's DXF file and use your favorite CAD programs or
  18.   drawing programs import DXF files into street map file.

  20.   The major features include:

  22.   o    Easy change to different maps
  23.   o    Find street by name and address
  24.   o    Show block by row#, col# and # of blocks
  25.   o    Find features by their segment#
  26.   o    Easily view blocks moving operation
  27.   o    Screen dump maps to a printer
  28.   o    Provide utility program to extract area map to AutoCad's DXF format 
  29.        files which can be used by CAD or drawing programs.  This capability
  30.        will let you create a nice looking area map.   Another option will
  31.        let you output street coordinates in longitude and latitude to a text
  32.        file.

  35. What types of ScreenMap map files are available today?
  36. ------------------------------------------------------

  38.   Every county of the U.S.A. is available from ScreenMap Co.  We call them
  39.   ScreenMap COUNTY FILE.  
  40.  
  41.   Each ScreenMap COUNTY FILE contains digital county map data, including 
  42.   highways, highway names, streets, street names, water boundaries, railroad
  43.   tracks, county boundaries, and address ranges on most of the street segments
  44.   for an entire county.  COUNTY FILE sizes can reach over 10 MB for the
  45.   largest county (for example, Los Angeles County around 11 MB), but most of 
  46.   the files are less than 5 MB.

  48.   All of the map files are extracted from 1990 Topologically Integrated 
  49.   Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER) files which have been reorganized
  50.   to make the map files compact and easy to search.  TIGER files are 
  51.   computerized census data for the entire United States, developed by the U.S.
  52.   Census Bureau to provide street address and other census data.

  58.   ScreenMap GUIDE requires the following minimum hardware configuration:
  59.      
  60.   o    IBM PC/XT/AT/PS2 or compatible with a minimum of 640K of RAM.

  62.   o    One high-density floppy drive (5 1/4" - 1.2 Mb) and a hard disk.
  63.  
  64.   o    DOS 3.0 or later.
  65.  
  66.   o    VGA graphics adaptor and monitor. (**** Note: We only support VGA ****)

  68.   ScreenMap GUIDE also supports the use of an optional math coprocessor
  69.  
  70.   and LaserJet or Epson-compatible dot matrix printer.

  73. How to install the program ?
  74. ----------------------------

  76.   To install the program, create a directory called \SMAP on your 
  77.  
  78.   hard disk and copy all the files into that directory.

  81. How to run the program from DOS?
  82. --------------------------------

  84.   To run the program, change directory to where the directory created,
  85.  
  86.   then enter:  SMAP
  87.  
  88.   or enter SMAP 11001
  89.  
  90.   Note:  You can have the PATH= statement point to the directory you just
  91.          created and then run the program without changing to that directory.

  93.   When you get to the map screen, please hit F1 to get a very detail
  94.   information on how to use the product.

  96.   To extract map data into DXF files, you need enter: SMAPOUT.

  98.   These programs are very user-friendly.  You should be able to master
  99.   all features of the programs in few minutes.

  101.   These programs are heavy disk usage type of programs.  Disk-caching utility
  102.   like SMARTDrive can speed up program execution quite a bit.

  105. How to run the program from Microsoft Window?

  108.   ScreenMap GUIDE can be run under real mode, standard or enhanced mode.

  110.   To set it up in Window, select Program Manager's FILE/NEW,
  111.   then select program item and enter the following data:

  120.   ScreenMap GUIDE can be installed on a network file server and run on
  121.   client PCs.  A site licencse may be required for multiple PCs.

  127.   If you use this product, please send us a $25 contribution for registration
  128.   per county map.  (Texas residents add applicable sale tax.)

  130.   Registering your program will entitle you to obtain notice of updates and 
  131.   enhancements and other products from us.  We need your contribution to keep
  132.   us going and serving you.

  134.   If you want any other county map files, we will be glad to send you disketts 
  135.   for $40 per county (this covers $25 for registration fee and $15 for shipping/ 
  136.   handling).  For example, if you want us send you LA and Orange County files 
  137.   of California, please send us $80 for two counties.  We have all the county 
  138.   map files for the U.S.A to serve you.
